Exciting News from our Education,Training and Employment (ETE) team
Accredited IT Training
We are happy to announce that we are now in the process of rolling out the new accredited I.T. training course that we have developed with help from Blenheim’s Training Manager. The course was designed to enable us to offer support to Service Users who would struggle to gain employment without the skills needed to use a computer. The course will teach them the basics e.g. emailing, understanding hyperlinks, accessing websites, the internet and word-processing. The training is run over four weeks and additional one-one support is available for those who require it. Once the Service User has completed the programme and is more confident, we will encourage/assist them to seek further training at a higher level. The first course started on the 9th of January.
The 12 week Learn2Earn course is also in the process of becoming accredited and we aim to deliver it with SKY accreditation from March 2017. Learn2Earn is adding value to the main contract by providing a structured training environment that focusses on skills that prepares attendees for future opportunities in ETE, volunteering and peer mentoring. Being able to offer Service Users a structured intervention on familiar ground helps to raise their self-confidence and improve their abilities in relation to ETE outcomes. Learn2Earn was set up in response to some clients telling workers that mainstream courses were not taking their needs into consideration and were not offering the level of support they felt was essential for someone in recovery. We are in the process of having the course accredited in the near future and this will of course have a positive effect on our outcomes.
In the meantime we ware referring Learn2Earn participants to the accredited in-house I.T. course. By spring 2017 Learn2Earn participants will leave the course with two accredited qualifications.
We have partnered up with two employers namely: Home Instead and Recruit London. Home Instead regularly recruit new employees to work in elderly homecare services and Recruit London whose tag line is “Local People for Local Jobs”, specialise in retail and hospitality work. They also help Service Users to access training.
Learn2Earn participants meet with both agencies at Acorn Hall and see if they can be job matched with any employment opportunities or training available.
