Taking a stand against domestic violence
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – and the beginning of the United Nation’s 16 days of Activism campaign. The annual campaign is highlighted by individuals and organisations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
Today is also ‘Blooming Strong Day’ which is a national campaign spearheaded by Standing Together Against Domestic Violence – a UK charity bringing communities together to end domestic abuse. Blooming Strong Day is an opportunity to recognise how ‘Blooming Strong’ survivors of domestic abuse are by presenting them with a single flower and letter of recognition.
At DAWS, we support this important initiative each year.
This week we will be recognising the emotional strength and resilience of domestic abuse survivors who have accessed our services and shared their stories. We will be presenting a single flower and letter to those women who are willing to be identified, celebrating their strength and inspiring others who may be going through the same journey.
We will also be recognising our wonderful staff who provide understanding, a safe place to talk, and support to break the cycle for those who are experiencing domestic violence or have been through it in the past.
There is a way out.
Our women’s only groups aim to create a positive environment which celebrates the strength of women. Find out more about our groups here.
