Miss E’s Story
Miss E's Story
Miss E has a long history of substance misuse and before volunteering at Refresh café has tried a number of times to stop using class A drugs, she has stated that she really lacked self-worth and this has led her to doubt herself when trying to address her addiction issues. She was homeless for a number of years and often in a co-depend relationship with a drug using partner. Miss E has now been successfully in gaining funding and a place at Howard house Detox center. I asked Miss E why she feels it will be different this time after trying to stop taking illicit drugs before. Miss E stated that this time she has really put in the ground work in to help her maintain her recovery, she has not taken any illicit drugs for over six months now, she attends groups regularly, working on her psychosocial treatment with turning point, she also volunteers at Refresh café twice a week and attends mutual aid meetings most days of the week, she is doing her step work with the fellowship and has really focused upon building up a positive network of friends, Miss E states that her recovery capital is strong and put this down to not doing it her way but trusting in the professional that are there to help her.
