Robert Buckland MP visits IMPACT

Robert Buckland MP for South Swindon visited IMPACT Swindon and Wiltshire Active Recovery Service, the local drug and alcohol support service in Swindon based at 4 Temple Street.

IMPACT is delivered by national social enterprise Turning Point and provides a range of support for people with drug and or alcohol problems including group work, 1:1 support, needle exchange, peer-support, harm reduction, access to detox and rehab, signposting and online treatment support.

During the visit Robert met with Turning Point staff to find out more about the service, what support is available for local residents, and the ways in which IMPACT works with other local partners such as Nelson Trust to provide a more joined up approach. He also met with a number of peer-mentors who all have lived experience of substance misuse and use these personal experiences to support current service users in recovery.

“It was great to meet staff and peer-mentors and discuss the wide range of support on offer here in Swindon. I am pleased to that IMPACT is working closely with other local partners to ensure that there is a joined up approach when it comes to essential support services.”

Ben Judd, Operations Manager at IMPACT said,

“It was fantastic to welcome Robert to the service and tell him about the support we are able to offer to local residents struggling with substance misuse issues and the partnerships we have developed with the local mental health, social and police and prohibition services.”
