Socialicious has a range of training opportunities for Wakefield’s service users in recovery, providing live experience of working in a café, dealing with customers and general retail experience.
In addition to this, service users are able to complete a range of workbooks that capture the work they do on the job. This gives them qualifications in Basic English and Maths, Customer Service, Stock Management, Food and Hygiene and a specific Social Enterprise qualification. We also ensures service users are experienced and complete the internal Barista course. Service users can obtain a work experience reference and are then supported by a Recovery Worker with a focus on generating Employment outcomes.
The coffee provided at Socialicious is the fair trade, rainforest alliance and organic blend from Falcon Coffees. This establishes us in Wakefield as a unique enterprise offering this level of quality for the city centre, although Yorkshire Tea is also a highly favoured alternative for our customers.
The venue also offers additional space which has been utilised for a range of other activities to involve our service users in the wider district. This includes mutual aid, mindfulness, well women’s centre, 12 step and Narcotics Anonymous. More outside of the box is our local history group, the monthly Bollywood dancing group and the upcoming Brahma Kumaris Meditation group. This gives our service users not the only the opportunity to gain mutual aid support but to connect directly with members of the community in addition to friendly conversation in our café front.
