The Resolution Clinic comes to Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster
Two years ago our South Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service (SWDAS) recognised that despite the demographics of their area, professionals were not accessing their services. They were looking to make healthy changes to their alcohol and drug use but either they did not want to attend traditional’ drug and alcohol services, didn’t identify as having issues with addiction, or could not do so during working hours.
So, with our vision in mind to support more people, in September 2014, SWDAS set up an evening service, called The Resolution Clinic. The clinic is targeted specifically at this group. The support provided builds on existing service provision of brief interventions, community detoxes, counselling, referral into detox and rehab and more.
However, unlike the usual abstention programmes this client group is usually looking to limit, control or stop their drinking whilst changing their smoking or drug use rather than focusing on complete abstinence. The SWDAS team have also discovered that these clients are also very responsive to holistic health and mindfulness approaches, tend to be open to 1:1 emotional help rather than group counselling and are responsive to different terminology than that of other SWDAS clients.
The service has proved very popular with residents and local GPs alike and their success, seeing between 12 to 19 clients a session, has led to the move from one to two evenings a week and Saturdays, early morning ‘commuter’ slots and lunch break sessions.
Turning Point services in Cheltenham and Medway have launched Resolution Clinics recently following the success in South Westminster.
